The Medium of Poetry in Interpreting Environment and Behavior

Call for Papers: Environment and Behavior Special Issue

Ruth Brent and Benyamin Schwarz Guest Editors

Diverse groups of people are writing poetry to describe their habitats and
behaviors that these places imbue. A Special Issue of Environment and
Behavior will explore poetry as a medium for making genuine contributions to
the advancement of knowledge regarding the influence of the physical
environment on human behavior. Poetry is defined here as text set in verse.
Submissions should be accompanied with comments about poetry written.

This Special Issue Call for Papers invites a wide range of perspectives in
scholarly papers. Possible topics of submission may include, although not
limited to, work which addresses questions such as:

* Can the medium of poetry have a unique capacity in seeing and
interpreting environment and behavior?

* How can poetry communicate the context of environment and behavior
in a specific time and place for a specific audience?

* How has poetry described, defined, and explained environment and
behavior historically?

* Do biographical analyses of poets, or author-oriented criticism of
poetry, help us understand environment and behavior?

Guidelines for submissions:
Maximum manuscript length is 15 typed, double-spaced pages. Manuscripts
should be submitted in triplicate. Each copy should include a 100-150 word
abstract. Follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological
Association for journal style.

Deadline for manuscript submissions: August 1, 1999.
