Call for Papers
1999 MLA in Chicago
"Song and Story: Narrative Theory of the
Lyric Sequence"
A panel sponsored by the Society for the Study
of Narrative Literature, on the formal issues
raised for narrative theory when stories are
told through sequences of lyrics, as in Wroth's
"Pamphilia to Amphilanthus," Tennyson's "In
Memoriam," and Snodgrass's "Heart's
Needle." Such issues might include but would
not be limited to: the establishment of
duration, ironic distance, contrastive voice,
unreliable focalization. Please send abstracts,
proposals, or 15-minute papers by March 15 to
David Richter, david_richter@qc.edu, 201
West 89th Street, New York, NY 10024.
