Consuming North America

Call for papers for American Studies/Canadian Studies Association,
Montreal, Fall 1999

Papers addressing an aspect of North American consumer culture. How do
people consume? How do people produce? I am particularly interested in
how consumers from one culture -- Canada/Mexico/US -- consume products
from other one of the the other cultures. For example, Americans going
to Tijuana to buy cheap goods or unapproved medicines. The consumption
of American TV by Canadians, or the importation of Spanish language TV
by American stations. The changes NAFTA has had on consumer culture.
