Issues 1.1 and 1.2 (1999)
Members and friends of the CLGSA / ACEGL are warmly invited to submit
completed scholarly papers, creative writing, or visual art to be published
in the forthcoming inaugural issue of TORQUERE to be launched at the 1999
Learneds Sessions.
TORQUERE accepts work by writers, artists, and scholars.
TORQUERE welcomes previously unpublished creative writing and visual art by
and about Canadian queer, lesbian, gay, and transgendered people. We are
particularly interested in work that seeks to play with conventional forms
and genres in ways which are innovative and challenging. For creative
submissions (poetry; short prose or creative non-fiction no more than 12
double-spaced pages; photography; sketches; cartoons), please send two hard
copies of your work.
TORQUERE will also include scholarly articles either on topics concerning
queer aspects of Canada and its social, political, material, and textual
culture by all scholars, or on queer topics outside Canadian Studies by
scholars conducting queer research in Canada. We welcome a diversity of
approaches from a wide spectrum of areas—from Sociology, History, Political
Science, Anthropology, Education, the Sciences, Business, Law, English,
French, Modern Language Studies, Cultural Studies, Native Studies, Women's
Studies, Philosophy, Drama, Film and Media Studies, Religion, Music, and the
Fine Arts. For scholarly submissions (between 15 and 25 double-spaced
pages), please send three hard copies of your work.
Send all submissions to: John L. Plews and Robert W. Gray, Executive
Coeditors, TORQUERE, Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies,
200 Arts, University of Alberta, Edmonton AB, Canada T6G 2E6. Because all
submissions are refereed blind by an advisory selection committee, the
author's name must not appear on the submission itself. Include a cover note
giving your name, address, telephone and fax numbers, email address, and the
title of your creative piece or scholarly paper. All submissions must be
accompanied by an SASE or an International Reply Coupon if the addressee is
from outside Canada.
Subscriptions and donations made payable to TORQUERE should be sent to the
aforementioned names at the above address. Subscription rates are as
follows: $25.00 (CDN) per year for individuals; $75.00 (CDN) per year for
institutions. Members of the CLGSA / ACEGL receive TORQUERE with their
membership. For more information about membership with the CLGSA /ACEGL
please contact Robert W. Gray, Secretary/Treasurer, CLGSA / ACEGL, 354-1755
Robson Street, Vancouver BC, V6G-3B7, Canada.
TORQUERE is also able to offer reasonable advertising rates for lesbian,
gay, transgendered, and queer publications, events, or businesses.
Submissions for the Spring 1999 issue are now due. Submissions for the Fall
1999 issue must be postmarked no later than July 2, 1999.
The Coeditors,
John L. Plews (University of Alberta)
Robert W. Gray (University of Alberta)
