First Annual Graduate Student Conference on Lusophone History, Literature
and Culture

University of California, Santa Barbara
May 8, 1999

Graduate students at all stages of study are invited to submit abstracts
for paper presentations. Topics may address any aspect or region of the
Portuguese-speaking world. We welcome all proposals for papers that
reflect the diversity of lands and peoples influenced in one way or
another by Portugal and the Portuguese language and culture. We encourage
the submission of interdisciplinary papers.

This conference will be held Saturday, May 8, 1999, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building, Room 6020 at the
University of California, Santa Barbara. There is a registration fee of
$15 for graduate students and $25 for faculty. Refreshments will be
