Call for Papers for a Special Session at the 1999 MLA Convention in
Chicago

EARLY MODERN TESTIMONY: The mise-en-scene of the testimonial act in early
modern literature. Who may legitimately bear witness? What are the
rhetorical and thematic peculiarities of early modern witnessing? Work on
continental texts especially welcome. Vitae and developed abstracts by
