The Department of Spanish and Portuguese (UCI) and the Department of
Chicano Studies (UCSB) invite you to participate in a discussion of
Chicano/US Latino literatures. Many of our most prominent critics have
noted that the Chicano Movement has entered into a third moment in its
political and cultural expression. We would like to investigate that
possibility by asking what constitutes each of the three moments, how
they differ, and lastly, what informs our cultural artifacts in la
actualidad. We are interested in papers that address canon formation,
feminist theory, performance theory, theories of visuality, queer
theory, philosophy, literary theory, anthropology, sociology, political
science, pop culture, and postcolonial theory. We anticipate
multi-genre panels organized around particular perspectives.
