"Of all the many glories that may be": Keats Before _Poems_ (1817)
A Proposed Special Session for the 1999 MLA Convention
Interest in Keats's early career--his early education, his medical
training, his first introductions to and relationships with other
contemporary literary figures, and so on--has steadily grown following the
publication of several major studies and the bicentennial celebration of
his birth in 1995. I am looking for papers that deal with Keat's early
work in the context of recent research on his life; I am especially
interested in papers that examine some of the lesser known poetical works
and letters. Possible topics could include, but are not limited to:
* Keats as/on Youth
* Keats and the "Magazine Wars"
* Keats and Education
* The Public Keats
* Keats in/on "Theory"
* Keats and Auto/Biography
* The Political Keats
* Keats and Memory
Please send 1-2 page abstracts, completed 15-20 minute papers, or inquiries
