Listening to Talk (3/31; MLA 12/27 - 12/30)
Seeking theoretical explorations of talk (everyday chatter, gossip,
schmooz, monologue, dialogue, Gerede) as textual and/or performative
phenomenon for the 1999 MLA conference (December 27-30) in Chicago. All
historical periods and perspectives. Drama/Performance Studies submissions
especially welcome. Papers should focus on the role(s) of talk itself more
than the context(s) in which this talk appears. [Notes: 1)New
announcement; does not appear in PMLA. 2)For purely pragmatic reasons,
submissions from full-time faculty members will probably -- quite
unfortunately -- be granted first consideration.] Please send 2-pg.
abstract and vita by 3/31/99 BY E-MAIL ONLY! (preferably within the body of
the e-mail itself rather than as an attachment) to: Shelley Salamensky
(salamens@fas.harvard.edu).
