     theorizing histories/nations
     eco-criticism
     (post)postcolonialism & hybridity
     margins/boundaries
     (re/dis)locations of culture
     constructing the global/local
     geographies of identity: ethnicity
     narration: models/methods/metaphors
     thresholds of gender: queer theory, gay/lesbian studies
     passing/masking
     
     Papers should be limited to 10-12 pages double spaced for 20-minute
     reading time. One-page abstracts of papers or proposals are to be sent
     to the following address by July 15. Those who wish to organize a
     paper or discussion panel should submit a proposal indicating the
     focus topic together with the names of three panelists. Sessions run
     75-90 minutes, and may include 3-4 panelists. Inter-disciplinary
     papers/panels are encouraged; scholars in social sciences are invited
     to participate.
      
     Registration: $75 (includes all conference brochure, and meals and
                double-occupancy lodging in the university guest house for
                four days). To avail of this rate, participants must
                pre-register by August 31, 1999

     The conference is sponsored by the India Studies Program in the LSUS
     College of Liberal Arts and the Forum on Contemporary Theory at the
     Maharaja Sayajirao University in Baroda (India). Local hospitality
     provided by the University of Goa
      
     Aboat Goa: A beautiful resort on the picturesque central west coast
     of India, Goa offers some of the finest beaches in the country. It is
     well connected by air, rail, and road to Mumbai, the commercial
     capital of India. A former Portuguese colony, it has medieval
     churches, temples, and a benign sea for water sports. Participants
     may wish to combine visits to places such as Ajanta and Ellora caves,
     Mahabaleswar, Jaipaur and Udaipur, Khajuraho, and Hyderabad with their
     trip to the conference.
     
     Travel to Mumbai/Delhi: All international carriers fly into
     Mumbai/Delhi. Ticket prices are competitive and vary between
     $1200-2200 in the economy class. Since December is the peak tourist
     season, conference participants will need to make travel reservations
     as early as July or August. Travel Exchange (214-871-7611) of Dallas
     has provided reliable service at competitive price for our conference
     participants in the past (contact: Hasu Tailor).
