ANGLO-SAXON ATTITUDES
A conference in pursuit of the English
University of Salford, UK, 9-11 July 1999
CONFIRMED PLENARIES: Nick Cull, Alison Light
CLOSING DATE FOR PROPOSALS: 19 MARCH
This interdisciplinary conference aims to explore the
concept of Englishness by examining its presence in various periods
and genres, in the field of literary and cultural studies.
Suggested topics include:
devolution as seen on TV reading 'English'
the English abroad Poets Laureate regional identities
Cool Britannia Merchant Ivory Millennium Dome
'national' writers Britpop beyond the Turner prize
heritage & folklore writers in exile Carry On Ealing
We welcome proposals from scholars at all stages of their research,
and intend to publish a selection of the papers given.
