_the minnesota review_ announces a special issue on "Fifties Culture"
(ns54, 2000). No longer modern, yet not quite postmodern, the fifties tend
to figure as the Sargasso Sea of twentieth century literature and culture.
This becalmed image is being challenged, however, by a new wave of
scholarship on the decade, and _minnesota review_ invites submissions for a
forthcoming special issue guest edited by Andrew Hoberek. We are seeking
studies from all fields that examine the decade's ignored aspects, place
the fifties in a broader context, or investigate the current state of
postwar literary, cultural, and intellectual history. Studies that propose
new, interdisciplinary paradigms for analyzing the decade's culture and
politics are especially welcome; in addition to longer pieces we invite
shorter review essays on recent studies of the postwar period. Please
direct essays (preferred) or advanced inquires by July 1, 1999 to
