The Race and Gender in 20th C. Lit. section of the SCMLA is badly in need of
papers. A brief extention has been granted. The specific topic is as follows:

""The Intersection of Races as the 20th C. Begins"

In the the 20th C.'s early years, how did white writers imagine Blacks, how did
Black writers imagine whites? Did writers see the gulf as impassable or were
there concepts of intersection ["intersections" being the conference's
overall theme]? This may be approached through geography (north and South),
through gender (concepts of womanhood), through ideology (DuBois vs. Washing-
ton), etc.

Please contact Richard S. Pressman as soon as possible and before 4/15.
