For the annual Conference on College Composition and Communication in
Minneapolis, April 12-15, 2000.
White Instructors of Students of Color
For many years, composition instructors and theorists have lauded the
concept of multiculturalism, and colleges have become more multiethnic
and multiracial. For many white instructors, this has meant teaching
texts by people of color to students of color, which sometimes can lead
to charges of paternalism. This panel proposes to investigate the
different strategies white instructors utilize to teach these texts and
these students.
