CFP: Critical Thinking and Cyberspace

The presence of computers in the contemporary educational environment is
a burgeoning phenomenon that has already radically transformed the
nature of classroom life. Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) has
challenged long-held beliefs about traditional educational practices and
transformed the very ways in which we think.
For a special issue of Inquiry: Critical Thinking Across the Disciplines
on Critical Thinking and Cyberspace, the editors invite papers that
explore the ramifications of this growing presence of computers in
teaching, learning and thinking. Submissions may include, but are not
limited to, the following topics:

* the virtual classroom vs. the traditional campus classroom;
* the phenomenology of scholarly online communities, websites and
discussion lists;
* how computers inhibit/enhance the critical thinking skills of
students;
* how CMC is shaping the mind;
* how CMC is shaping our overarching models of education and its goals;
* how (online) journals and the peer review process are being effected.

This is a last call for an issue that is nearly complete but has space
available for one or two strong papers. Deadline for submissions: May
10, 1999.
