----UNPACKING THE ANTHOLOGY
A one-day conference on anthologies, anthologists and anthologising in literary studies
Edge Hill College, 16th July 1999
Anthologies of all kinds are increasingly popular as both a teaching resource and in the market place. The aim of the conference is to explore the diverse and encompassing aspects of the making and use of the anthology from both historical and contemporary perspectives.
Papers are invited on issues arising from the process of anthologising both prose and poetry, and the implications of the use of anthologies into the millennium.
Possible areas could include:
Critical Histories * Genre * Readership * Publications and publishing * Teaching with anthologies * Anthologies and the Canon * Aesthetics of selection * Class race and gender * Anthologists and the process of editing * The politics of anthologies * Constructing the image and reputation of individual authors through anthologies.
