This is a second posting of the Call for Papers for the conference on "Theory at the end of the Millenium," December 16-18, at the University of Goa (India). Please note that the deadline for submission of a one-page abstract is July 15. =================================================================== CALL FOR PAPERS Forum on Contemporary Theory second annual conference University of Goa (India) 16-18 December 1999 Theory at the End of the Millenium Some suggested topics theorizing histories/nations; narration: models/ methods/ metaphors; eco-criticism; (post)postcolonialism & hybridity; margins/ boundaries; (re/dis)locations of culture; constructing the global/local; geographies of identity; ethnicity; thresholds of gender: queer theory, gay/lesbian studies; passing/ masking Papers should be limited to 10-12 pp. double spaced for 20-minute reading time. One-page abstracts of papers or proposals are to be sent to the following address by July 15. Those who wish to organize a paper or discussion panel should submit a proposal indicating the focus topic together with the names of three panelists. Sessions run 75-90 minutes, and may include 3-4 panelists. Inter-disciplinary papers/panels are encouraged; scholars in social sciences are invited to participate. Selected papers from the conference will be published in the Journal of Contemporary Thought. Registration: $75 (includes all conference brochure, and meals and double-occupancy lodging in the university guest house for four days). It is well connected by air, rail, and road to Mumbai, the commercial capital of India. A former Portuguese colony, it has medieval churches, temples, and a benign sea for water sports. Participants may wish to combine visits to places such as the Ajanta and Ellora caves, Mahabaleswar, Jaipaur and Udaipur, Khajuraho, and Hyderabad with their trip to the conference. A local sightseeing tour package will be available at registration. Conference sponsors: India Studies Program at LSU-Shreveport, the Forum on Contemporary Theory at the Maharaja Sayajirao University in Baroda (India), and the University of Goa. Travel to Mumbai/Delhi from US cities: All international carriers fly into Mumbai/Delhi. Ticket prices from are competitive and vary between $1200-2200 in the economy class.
