IT'S TIME TO PREPARE FOR THE REVIVAL OF HAPPY ERUDITION AND CULTIVATED
FUN! Yes, it's true: we down here on the bayou are already preparing for
the jolliest of all possible conferences, SCSECS 2000. With our theme,
"Tomorrow in Yesterday, Or, The Frolics of Possibility" already in place,
we are revving up for a festival of talent ad joviality, a carnival of wit
likeunto only that which is likeunto nothing else! There will be amazing
plenary speakers, stunningly original panels and papers, cornucopious
feasts, astounding intelli-social excursions with a Cajun-plantation
theme, and, in sum, everything that you could hope for in a 21st-century
mental explodarama!
The long-awaited poster and call for papers for this event
will be published in a fortnight or so. In anticipation of this
release, we at SCSECS headquarters would like to know whether
there are any dix-huitiemistes out there wou would like to
propose any additional panels for this grand symposium. We already have
the germ of a super program planted, but we would like more panels from
our ever-fertile pals. We are especially eager for panels from
colleagues who would be willing to recruit panel membership, in the
thought that, on such an occasion of the millennium, and in the
exploration of possibility, we ought to probe the countless subsets
of our profession and open the door to the unseen multitudes of secret
friends and jolly relations. We invite panels from all over the world,
as we are already developing panels from England, Germany, and
Spain, and would like to see the whole world in our floral tropical
paradise of springtime Louisiana!
This will not be your last chance; SCSECS is an ever-evolving
organization that will welcome panels at any time that they spontaneously
generate. However, it would help us all if you would allow us to
advertise your panel. Those of you who would like to present papers will
get your formal call very soon, so don't despair--you'll have plenty of
chances to participate, indeed will be welcomed with open arms and buoyant
pirogues!
Feel free to write to me and propose your panel offline. And thanks for
your generosity!
     Cordially yours,
     Kevin L. Cope
     SCSECS President
