Call for Papers

Mid-Atlantic Popular Culture/American Culture Association Conference

Philadelphia (Valley Forge), PA

November 5-7, 1999

                 Shakespeare in Popular Culture

                                
     For the third year, papers are invited that explore the
presence and usage of the plays and characters of Shakespeare in American
popular culture. Papers are invited that explore how (and why) American
appropriations of Shakespeare have bridged high and popular culture in
fiction, advertising, music, theatre, film and television.

     Please send an abstract (minimum of 150 words) for either or
both conferences before June 1, 1999 to:

Shakespop panels are also being organized for the Popular Culture/American
Culture Conference to be held in New Orleans, April 19-22, 2000.
Abstracts for the national conference are due Sept. 15, 1999.
