CALL FOR PAPERS
9th Annual CENTRAL NEW YORK CONFERENCE ON LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE
Cortland, New York
October 3 - 5, 1999
Papers are requested for a panel on "Immigrant Literatures and Cultures
(American, Canadian or Other)."
What is immigrant litereature and/or culture? Who produces such
literature/culture? Who is the consumer? How is immigrant
literature/culture marketed? How are immigrants represented in
literature, film, and other cultural mediums? What theoretical
approaches can be (or are being) used when discussing immigrant
representation, literature, film, or culture? Papers addressing these
issues are especially encouraged, although papers dealing with other
issues will also be considered. Submissions may include close readings
or analysis of a specific immigrant text, and/or author/filmmaker, or
more general approaches to the overall questions raised by the label
"immigrant literatures and cultures." Submissions dealing with the
following relationships are also encouraged: immigrant individual and an
immigrant community; immigrant groups; immigrant individual/group and
the dominant national host.
Please submit 300-500 word abstracts or completed papers by July 1 to:
