The deadline for submissions has been extended for the 5th Annual Southern
Writers, Southern Writing Graduate Conference at the University of
Mississippi.
The graduate students in the departments of English and Southern Studies
at the University of Mississippi invite you to submit abstracts on or
about the South for a graduate-level conference to be held in Oxford on
the 23rd and 24th of July, 1999. Graduate students who attend the
Southern Writers, Southern Writing Conference will be offered a special
rate for the 1999 Faulkner & Yoknapatawpha Conference, to be held the
following week in Oxford.
Topics for papers or panels are not restricted to literature and may
include:
southern politics or economics
southern communities -- insiders and outsiders
teaching composition in the South
re-writing southern history
ethnographic research
constructions of identity in the South
Please send one to two-page abstracts of critical work or entire creative
works to:

Reading limit is twenty minutes; please include your summer address with
your submission. The deadline for submissions is May 30, 1999. There
will be two monetary awards granted for critical essays presented, as well
as an award given for the *worst* in our Bad Poetry Competition.
