UPDATE for session formerly entitled:
(Re)Constructions of the Masculine in the Postmodern American Theatre

I am now additionally soliciting papers for other performative literatures,
fiction and non-fiction. The deadline has thus been changed from 11 June,
1999 to 1 July, 1999.

Call for Papers for the Contemporary American Literature Session of the
9th Annual Central New York Conference on Language and Literature
Cortland College of the State University of New York
3-5 October, 1999

This session will examine the codification of the gendered male in
contemporary American literature. Analyses of "depictive" or "revisionist"
texts
are welcome, as well as those that convey the Masculine through absence or
negation. Other possible topics include, but are not limited to:

Erecting the Performative "Manly Man"
The Masculinities of Race
Gendering (Homo)Sexuality
(Re)Constructions of Family
The Economics and Occupational Hazards of "Pomophobia"
