A Century of Women in the Ottoman Empire and in Turkey

 is accepting proposals in the form of
 abstracts on the topic of
 
******************** IDENTITY ********************

The conference will cover a wide range of fields such as history,
economics, political science, literature, sociology centering around
women's search for identity during the last years of the Ottoman empire
and in the Turkish Republic. We will focus on the experiences of women
whose countries were formerly part of the Empire as well as those of the
non-muslims living in the Empire and in Turkey. Papers dealing with the
identity problems of Turkish women living in Europe are also welcome.
The papers may deal with any approach such as postcolonial,
transnational, and/or diaspora theories.
