CURIOUS EYES: SITES AND SCENES OF MODERNISM
A ONE-DAY INTERDISCIPLINARY POSTGRADUATE CONFERENCE
THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
28TH SEPTEMBER, 1999.

This conference aims to provide a forum for innovative and challenging
postgraduate work in the field of modernist studies in its literary,
social, political, artistic and philosophical contexts. Concentrating its
interest in the period from the late-nineteenth century to the
mid-twentieth century, this conference hopes to promote scholarly exchange
and social interaction between postgraduate students from different
disciplines, as well as plumb the depth and breadth of new approaches to
modernism in its European, American and Australian manifestations. It is
anticipated that conference proceedings will be published as a collection
of scholarly essays by the end of 1999.

Possible paper topics include:

* Gender & Modernism
* Modernist Subjects & Objects

* Modernist Theories of Time
* The Marketing of Modernism
* Modernism & Psychoanalysis

500 word abstracts & 50 word biography due: 15th July, 1999

We request that all abstract proposals be accompanied by a brief biography
of the presenter, stating institutional and departmental affiliations,
previous conference appearances, recent publications and current research
interests.
