Critical Orthodoxies?
The Cultural Studies Caucus will sponsor a panel or roundtable discussion
(depending on submissions) entitled "Critical Orthodoxies?" At the
Cultural Studies cash bar in Milwaukee, we discussed the ways in which,
for some, the kinds of work we do have come to stand for a "new critical
orthodoxy." This panel will seek to address that perception and to answer
questions that arise from it. To what extent could we be said to work
with a shared set of conventions? Is there an established set of ideas or
practices that we would identify as common in our work? If this "new
critical orthodoxy" exists, what is its relation to other/older
"orthodoxies" in eighteenth-century studies? Are there ideological
implications for the rise of a "critical orthodoxy?" Proposals for this
session may address any one or all of these questions. Particular
consideration will be given to proposals that articulate key concerns for
the field of eighteenth-century studies.
Submissions by graduate students and by persons in fields other than
English are encouraged.
