Call For Papers

ìContemporary Visual Media and American Cultureî

Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association Annual
Conference
New Orleans, LA April 19-22, 2000

In recent years the ways in which visual media (i.e. TV, films, web
sites, advertisements, comics, etc.) and American culture are influenced
by and reflective of one another have become increasingly varied and
complex. This area seeks papers and presentations that will shed light
on any and all aspects of this phenomenon by focusing primarily on
either individual works or general trends that have come into being
within the last two years.

Possible topics:

--Hollywoodís use of young TV stars in feature films and the
omnipresence of specific
    audience targeting
--Sexually oriented web sites and their influence on American morality
--The Networksí Caucasian dominated fall line-up and American race
relations
--MTV and the bringing of Hip-Hop culture to the suburbs
--South Park and the corruption of America's youth: fact or fiction?
--Eyes Wide Shut: social commentary or tawdry titillation?
 --The commercialization of the internet
--Digital imaging in film and the decline of character development

Individual proposals (for papers and presentations) should be no more
than 250 words in length and should be sent no later than September 1
to:
