        Popular Culture/American Culture Conference
        February 9-12, 2000
        Sheraton Old Town
        Albuquerque, New Mexico

        THE CLASSICAL LEGACY IN 19TH AND 20TH CENTURY AMERICA
Papers wanted dealing with the revival and/or reuse of motifs from ancient
Greek and Roman art and architecture. The theme for these papers should
emphasize the late 19th and 20th centuries rather than the Colonial or
Federalist periods. While the revival of classical styles is foremost,
papers
dealing with the manifestation of a revival of Egyptian or ancient Near
Eastern
motifs would also be considered.
Likely topics include but are not limited to:
        Public buildings such as banks, libraries, state capitols
        Railroad stations
        Hotels in Las Vegas (Nevada)
        J. P. Getty Museum
        Cemeteries and tombstone decorations
Papers treating any aspect of the topic are welcome.
Deadline for submission of abstracts (150-200 words): November 15th
