CFP: Society for Cinema Studies (9/99; 3/9-12)

Submissions are sought for a panel entitled “Affect and the Special Effect”
at the 2000 Society for Cinema Studies conference in Chicago. This panel
will explore at least four concepts in relation to cinematic special
effects: visuality, spatiality, temporality, and virtuality. We are
particularly interested in papers that seek to expand rhetorical
engagements with special effects as something other than the loss of
narrative, as something other than “mere” eye candy. Contact: James
Roberts, 115 Carnegie Building, College of Communications, Penn State
University, University Park, PA 16802; Email: atomaction@psu.edu
