on Medieval Studies, 5-8 May 2000

ARTHURIAN ROMANCE AND MEDIEVAL HISTORIOGRAPHY

This session seeks papers that explore intertextual issues related to
"romance" and "historical" Arthurian narratives. Papers could examine
such issues as:

        -Arthurian romance and historical rhetoric
        -Arthurian romance as meta-history
        -Arthur and conflicting ideologies of rulership
        -Arthurian intertextuality and medieval hermeneutic practices
        -Arthurian romance and historical narratives as discourses for
English national identity

Abstracts should indicate the paper's central issues, thesis, methodology,
and conclusion(s). Please include: Your name, institutional affiliation,
complete mailing address, phone, e-mail, and fax numbers. Title of paper,
confirmation that paper is no more than 20 minutes, an abstract cover sheet
(available in the July International Congress on Medieval Studies Call for
Papers). Any abstracts not accepted for this session will be forwarded to
the Program Committee at the Medieval Institute for possible inclusion in a
General Session.
