Call for Papers
The Irish City
The Twelfth Graduate Irish Studies Conference will convene 24-26 March
2000, at Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California, located
thirty miles east of Los Angeles. This conference will consider "The
Irish City," as metropolitan center in relation to the peripheries, in
the past as well as in the present, as imaginary and material
construction, and as situated not only in Ireland, but also in Europe
and the larger trans-national community.
Submissions of papers and panel proposals are encouraged from graduate
students working in all disciplines, including art, literature, music,
film, architecture and urban studies, education, communication,
technology, economics, politics, philosophy, law, religion, cultural
studies, European studies, migration studies, ethnic studies, history,
archaeology, anthropology, sociology, psychology, and medicine (and
other sciences). Proposals for presentations that deviate from the
traditional three- and four-panelist format are welcome, as are papers
and proposals addressing topics outside the stated theme.
The deadline for paper and panel proposals is 10 November 1999.
Send a one-page abstract for each paper, panel, or presentation. Panel
proposals should include a list of participants and all paper abstracts.
Finished papers should not exceed ten double-spaced pages (15-20 minute
delivery). Forward inquiries and submissions, including author's name,
affiliation, postal and e-mail addresses, fax and phone numbers, to:
