                The 10th Annual Conference on Virginia Woolf:

                         VIRGINIA WOOLF OUT OF BOUNDS

              The University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC)
                                June 8-11, 2000

VIRGINIA WOOLF OUT OF BOUNDS will highlight the range of work on Woolf
that crosses regional, temporal, and disciplinary boundaries of all kinds.
As the inaugural conference of the millennium VIRGINIA WOOLF OUT OF BOUNDS
will address the future of Woolf study, especially as an opportunity for
new intellectual exchanges and mixtures. The conference will also feature
original art, music, and performance inspired by Woolf.

Proposals for papers, or for complete panels are invited on such topics
as:

--Woolf in post-colonial contexts --Woolf from lesbian/queer
                                                perspectives
--Woolf and contemporary theory --Woolf and the Harlem Renaissance

--Woolf and Asia --Material Woolf

--Woolf and science --Inter-textual Woolf/ sightings
                                                of Woolf
--Woolf and history --Woolf in translation

--Woolf and other media --Woolf and textual editing

In addition, the conference particularly invites proposals on pedagogical
issues such as:

--Woolf in the Women's Studies Curriculum

--Woolf in the ESL classroom

--Woolf in the AP English/High School Curriculum

--Woolf and composition study

Seven copies of one-page paper proposals, or for complete panels, seven
copies of each paper proposal plus a letter from the organizer describing
the panel's rationale, by Jan. 15, 2000 to:

UMBC is located 10 minutes from downtown Baltimore in the Baltimore
-Washington Corridor and affords easy access to Baltimore's inner harbor
and to Washington D. C. It is easily reached via Amtrak, air (into BWI
airport) and car. The suburban campus is wheel-chair accessible.
