CALL FOR PAPERS
QUEER PEDAGOGY
proposed panel
2000 South Central Modern Language Association Convention
(San Antonio, Nov. 9-11, 2000)
This panel will explore connections between queerness and teaching. When
does teaching become queer? Should we and how can we "teach queerness" (or
"teach homosexuality", or, for that matter, heterosexuality)? What kind of
pedagogy can be called "queer"? Is there something inherently queer about
pedagogy as such? Or is there a need to actively queer our teaching
practices? How might we do that?
Both papers discussing specific examples of teaching queer issues/texts
and those that address these questions more theoretically will be
considered. Papers informed by recent queer theories are particularly
welcome.
Completed papers or 1-2 pages long abstracts should be sent to the address
below by November 1, 1999. E-mail submissions are fine. Please don't
hesitate to send me any questions or suggestions as well. Notice that this
panel has not been approved by the Convention program committee yet. After
selecting 3 or 4 papers, I will propose the complete panel to the
committee, and they will make their decision known by the end of the year.
