CALL FOR PAPERS

MATERIALS FOR FEMINISM - SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
A one-day interdisciplinary conference
hosted by the Institute for Women's Studies
at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia
on Friday December 10th

- ABSTRACTS DUE FRIDAY AUGUST 20th
********************************************
What materials (or materialisms) inform contemporary feminist theory,
feminist reading and/or feminist social and political practice? Evoking
the contested terrain of the 'material', from 'historical materialism'
to 'matter and the body', Materials for Feminism also asks if/how
feminism's social agenda(s) is/are currently being reconstituted.

Related questions: What is 'material(ism)' in feminist theory and
practice? Are postmodern feminists 'material girls'? do feminists
neglect class difference? Are 'history', 'patriarchy' and 'oppression'
still relevant terms for feminist inquiry? Can materialist feminism(s)
account for 'pleasure'? How/is feminist inquiry materially situated?
What is the social and political reach of feminism? How/do feminists
address the 'mainstream'? How is feminism theorising/responding to
globalisation?
