Lives Reconfigured?: Examining Disability and Narrative
Papers are sought which theorize either autobiographical narratives by
people with disabilities, or the trope of disability in general
narratives/narrative theory. Recent books such as Mitchell/Snyder's The
Body and Physical Difference: Discoures of Disability, Rosemarie Thomson's
Extraordinary Bodies: Reconfiguring Disability in American Literature and
Culture, and G. Thomas Couser's Recovering Bodies: Disability, Illness, and
Life-writing have focused new attention on disabled bodies in literature
and culture and on disability memoir as a genre. All disabilities will be
considered from physical, mental, emotional, as well as learning
disabilities, other "non-visible" disabilities, blindness,
Deafness/deafness, and AIDS/cancer/chronic illness.
