The William Faulkner Society is issuing a call for
papers for two panels to be offered at the Society for the
Study of Southern Literature Conference to be held April 6
through 9, 2000, in Orlando, Florida.
FIRST PANEL ---
FAULKNER AND THE NEW MILLENIUM: CRITICISM AND THE
POLITICS OF DIFFERENCE
This panel will explore the relationship between Faulkner's
work and the changing cultural context, particularly the
complex and ever-evolving politics of difference. Proposals
for papers on Faulkner and issues of race, class, gender,
and ethnicity are welcome. Send one-page descriptions or
queries to Judith Wittenberg, either by mail to 146 Allerton

The deadline is September 20th, 1999.
SECOND PANEL ---
OPEN TOPIC
This panel will be an open topics session on the life and work
of William Faulkner. Essays addressing pedagogical and
political matters Faulknerian will be considered, as will the
gamut of other scholarly approaches. Presentations should be
limited to a reading time of 15 to 20 minutes. Please send
