Call For Proposals:

"Portraiting" Foreignness: Conventional and Unconventional Portrayals of
Outsiders in the 17th and 18th Centuries

This session will consider the ways in which the conventions of portraiture
were manipulated and revised to depict women, foreigners, and others
outside of the white male hegemony of western European and British courts
and other circles of patronage during the 17th and 18 th centuries. Those
working with textual, as well as visual, portraits (and those working with
both) are encouraged to submit proposals. A strongly interdisciplinary mix
of subjects and scholars is the goal.
