CALL FOR PAPERS

"SPANISH POPULAR FICTIONS"

We have signed a contract with the University Press of American to publish a collection of essays dedicated to the analysis of popular printed genres in twentieth-century Spain. We anticipate publication during the year 2000.

Papers or abstracts are therefore sought which either/and: address the reception (by both readers and critics) of popular genres; assess printed genres as popular (as opposed to 'canonical') ones; discuss the incorporation into their work of elements of popular genres by established writers or analyse the presentation of 'popular' topics in texts; analyse market reactions to popular genres; discuss popular textual genres in relation to contemporary political realities.

We are particularly keen to receive papers on the following areas and topics: ROMANCE NOVELS FANTASY FICTION SCIENCE FICTION ADVENTURE STORIES THE THRILLER COMICS REVISTAS DEL CORAZON (HOLA, SEMANA, ETC) 'ADULT' LITERATURE WRITING FOR CHILDREN LITERARY PRIZES/GATHERINGS although we will consider papers on other printed genres.
