American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (ASECS) annual meeting,
University of Pennsylvania, 12-16 April 2000, designated session of
affiliated society Historians of Art and Architecture
"The Spatial Imagination: The Conception, Creation, and Cultural Uses of
Space"
Proposals are sought for papers that examine the role of space in specific
cultural contexts anywhere in the world during the 18th century. How did
the design, discovery, visual or verbal representation, usage, or
perception of space contribute to the construction of identities,
knowledge, ideologies, or social systems? How did spatial mentalities and
practices both manifest and actively shape particular modes of thought and
experience?
