"Coming of Age: New Voicing in Contemporary British Fiction 1979 - 2000"
The University of Cambridge Department of English presents in conjunction
with the London Network for Modern Fiction Studies a colloquium at Jesus
College, Cambridge.
Venue: The Upper Hall, Jesus College, University of Cambridge, Saturday,
12th February 2000, 9:00 - 17:00 (registration 9:00 - 9:30). Advance
tickets 10.00 pounds sterling, (students and concessions 7.50 pounds
sterling) including refreshments, but not lunch.
The colloquium theorizes notions of remembrance, nostalgia, history,
myth or (re)inventions of the past in contemporary British fiction from
1979 to 2000. Contributions might consider these themes (or structuring
principles) that are recurrent in the works of many writers of the
period, including Pat Barker, Jim Crace, Jonathan Coe, Lucy Ellmann, and
Graham Swift among others.
Papers and panel suggestions should be emailed by December 13th to: Dr.
Philip Tew, tewp@clara.net, phone (44 0) 171 263 9657 or 0956 951 930.
