NEW DEADLINE!!! REVISED DEADLINE!!!

Call for Papers
South Central MLA
San Antonio, Nov. 9-11, 2000
Deadline for papers 10/1/99

"TESOL Outside of the Classroom: Conversation Hours in the
University"

We are seeking papers on the above topic in keeping with the 2000 SCMLA
conference themes of "Teaching Languages and Literatures:
Histories, Practices, Speculations."

This panel will explore the variety of approaches used outside the
traditional university classroom to teach both English as a second
language and to encourage a sharing of cultures among non-native and
native speakers in the United States. With the university
enrollment of international students increasing dramatically as we end
the millennium, new and changing methods will no doubt be used to
instruct these students. At the University of Kentucky, for
instance, we have created the ICH (or International Conversation Hour) as
one resource for this interaction.

This panel hopes to examine this exciting and ever-expanding field by
carefully examining successes and struggles as well as to create a
dialogue between interested colleagues.

Please feel free to contact us with questions and ideas. There is a
lot of flexibility within the category as there are myriad methods that
TESOL teachers are using to better instruct their students.

Thank you.
