CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT

ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE BRITISH SOCIETY FOR EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY STUDIES IN 2000

As announced at the Society's AGM in 1998, in order to give the Millenium
Bug the time to expire, the Annual Conference of BSECS will be held between
10 and 14 August 2000 in the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.

The session titles already proposed are as follows:

The Armed Forces The Noble Savage
The Capital and the Provinces Philosophical Discourses
The XVIIIth-Century Avant-garde Poverty and Affluence
Fairy Tales Printing and Publishing
Gender Private Theatres
History of Ideas Public and Private Space
Horror in Life and Literature Public Ritual and Spectacle
The Idea of Rank Religion and Superstition
Intellectual Frontiers Scientific Inquiry
Literary Inquiry Technology
The Marvellous Travel
Medicine Visual Culture
Music and Song

Proposals for twenty-minute papers (with an indication of the appropriate
section), accompanied by an abstract of c. 200 words, should be sent,
either in hard copy or by email (pasted, not as an attachment, please), to
