Call for Papers, Journal of Asian American Studies, 3:2
We would like to announce a call for papers for the Journal of Asian
American Studies, 3:2. This issue will examine the role of race and its
articulations for Asian Pacific Americans, particularly as we enter the new
millenium. How does the lived experience of Asian Pacific Americans
confound how we think about race? How are established categories of race
being contested and transformed? How are Asian Pacific American communities
addressing the tremendous changes around race going on in our separate and
shared communities, both in the United States and abroad? What are the new
ways in which Asian Pacific Americans are being constituted as subjects?
What are the new kinds of epistemologies being used? Possible topics might
include, for example, the role of Asian Pacific Americans in organizing
efforts across race and community bases, the relationship of Asian Pacific
Americans to contemporary media & society, the positioning of Asian Pacific
Americans in regard to the new census categories, the strategies and
organizing efforts of multi-racial Asian Pacific Americans, the pivotal role
of gender in shaping alliances, the construction and challenging of national
categories, and the comparison of Asian Pacific American communities with
other communities outside of the United States.
Deadline for articles: December 15, 1999. For more information about the
Journal of Asian American Studies, including guidelines for submission of
manuscripts, please see the Association for Asian American Studies webpage.
