Call for Papers:
                        BORDERLANDS

The Fourth Annual ASU Writers Conference in Honor of Elmer Kelton

February 24-26, 2000 at Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX.

Past Keynote Speakers: Elmer Kelton, Rudolfo Anaya, W.P. Kinsella

This year's Keynote Speaker will be James Carlos Blake whose novel _In the
Rogue Blood_ won the Los Angeles Times Literary Award and whose novel _Red
Grass River_ won the 1999 Chautauqua South Fiction award. Mr. Blake has
also written _The Pistoleer_, _The Friends of Pancho Villa_ and the
recently released _Borderlands_.

Works with a Borderlands theme (not restricted to the Southwest) are
especially encouraged, but not required. We encourage both critical and
creative submissions. Types of submissions:
        *Poetry, fiction, or non-fiction essays (20-30 minute reading
times
        *Short films (standard VHS format; enclose SASE for return.
ASU is not responsible for damaged tapes.)
        *Critical or biographical essays or panels on James Carlos Blake
or other writers or Borderlands issues (complete articles or
abstracts/proposals of about 250 words accepted).
