Call for Papers
Sixth International Seminar on Culture & Power:
Unofficial Knowledge(s)

Papers are welcome from a broad range of disciplines including the various
"studies" (literary, film, women's, historical, cultural, gay/lesbian,
postcolonial etc.) that focus on aspects on "unofficial knowledge(s)" (any
form of knowledge that is or has been hidden, lacks official approval, is
secret, repressed or ignored) in any geographical-political area within the
English- speaking world. Proposed papers may concentrate on nationalities;
class structures/clashes; ethnic groups & questions of migration, boarder
or territory; gender relationships; sexual identities/politics;
environmental or geopolical issues; forms of cultural production;
categories of modernism/postmodernism; ideology; popular culture etc.
Papers are also welcome from those working in intercultural communication.
Within this broad rubric contributors will be asked to relate their
explorations to structures of power and/or social formations.
Proposals for papers, with a 150-word abstract, should be sent as
attachment to the
seminar organizers before February 1st, 2000. Final papers (also by
attachment), which should not exceed 10 pages (20 minutes delivery), are
due by April 1st 2000 (in
triplicate - please include a copy on diskette). A selection of the papers
will be published, according to their thematic relevance to the publication.
