UPDATE: Edith Wharton at Newport: 2000.

The directors of the sixth Edith Wharton Society conference, which will
convene in Newport, Rhode Island, June 21st - 25th, 2000, are pleased
to announce that Eleanor Dwight and Shari Benstock will be featured
speakers. In addition, the Newport Historical Society has agreed to
guide conferees through Wharton's pre-Gilded-Age Newport with talks
and tours.

The Call for Papers is still open, and you are invited to submit a proposal
on any subject of interest to Wharton scholars, especially Edith Wharton
as a fin-de-siècle writer, the importance of Newport in the Wharton oeuvre,
and Wharton studies in the new millennium.

If you would like to develop an entire panel, you may visit the conference
website at www.gonzaga.edu/faculty/campbell/wharton/index.html to submit
requests for collaborators and contributors.

Proposals (1-2 pages) are due by November 15, 1999, to Dr.
Carole Shaffer-Koros, Director, MA in Liberal Studies, Kean
University, Union, NJ, 07083. Fax: (908) 289-1067.
