Dear Folks,
I am writing to you as general editor of the Encyclopedia of American
Immigration. We are in the process of trying to assign the remaining
entries of the encyclopedia. Can you please post this on any email
listserve that you have. We are interested in finding faculty members
or grad students who would like to write about any entry listed below
in the Remaining Entries list.
Also, I am including a brief description of the project. If you or
anyone else would like a full prospectus, with a complete TOC, let us
know and we will email them to you.
Sincerely,
James Ciment, PhD

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
CALL FOR CONTRIBUTORS
ENCYCLOPEDIA OF AMERICAN IMMIGRATION
We are looking for contributors for the 2,000-page, four-volume,
illustrated Encyclopedia of American Immigration (EAI), to be published
by M.E. Sharpe in the fall of 2000. Comprehensive in scope and
written by top scholars in the field, the EAI will be the definitive
reference work on immigration for years to come. Among our board of
advisors are Nancy Foner (SUNY Purchase), Hector Cordero-Guzman (New
School), Ruben Rumbaut (Michigan State), and Nazli Kibria (Boston).
The encyclopedia is divided into four parts: IMMIGRATION HISTORY,
immigration issues, immigration groups (ethnic/regional), and
immigration (original) documents. Articles run between 8 and 30
manuscript pages in length, depending on subject.
All entries will be signed and all writers will be listed on
contributor page. Small stipends will also be paid. Contributors may
write any number of entries. The deadlines for materials range from
December 15, 1999 through March 15, 2000, depending on length of entry
and the contributor's own schedule.
If you cannot contribute, perhaps you can forward names and email
addresses of scholars (including graduate students) who would be
interested. We can email a prospectus with a full description of the
project, including a list of entries still available. Contact us at:
