Call for Submissions
For a special issue of Victorian Studies on "Victorian Pedagogies," we
would like to solicit essays addressing Victorian pedagogical practices:
their history, epistemological and psychological assumptions, and their
cultural, political, and literary applications and representations. We
seek essays exploring British or colonial contexts that draw connections
among educational, literary, philosophical, political, religious, and
social scientific writings, as well as the institutions, organizations,
and people sponsoring debate on education and educational reform efforts
in the nineteenth century. We are especially interested in contributions
that focus on the dynamics of subject formation and interrogate the
related issues of hegemony, agency, consciousness, and discipline.
Essays should be no more than 9000 words in length, and should adhere to
MLA style. For blind reading purposes, the author's name, affiliation,
e-mail address, and postal address should be included on an accompanying
sheet, not on the manuscript itself. Please send 3 copies directly to one
of VS's guest editors for this special issue: Professor Elaine Hadley,
Dept. of English Language and Literature, The University of Chicago, 1050
East 59th Street, Chicago, IL 60637; or Professor Sarah Winter, Dept. of
English, Yale University, P.O. Box 208302, New Haven, CT 06520. Please
include an e-mail address for acknowledgement of manuscripts received.
E-mail queries maybe directed to: ehadley@midway.uchicago.edu or
sarah.winter@yale.edu.
DEADLINE: Submissions must be postmarked no later than January 15, 2001.
