Third annual graduate student conference.
"The Federal Period in the American Imagination" sponsored by Boston
University's American and New England Studies Program and the Society for
the Preservation of New England Antiquities. To be held Friday evening,
April 7 and Saturday, April 8, 2000. This interdisciplinary conference
will provide a forum for exploring the Federal period/Early Republic
(1790-1820), both its direct influence on the American character and
subsequent interpretations. As this conference is intended to complement
ongoing research of SPNEA's Harrison Gray Otis House, papers on related
topics such as Federal-period elites, architecture, domestic life and
service, decorative arts, gender, race, class, and literature are
especially encouraged. We also welcome submissions on topics such as
Hollywood on the Federal Period, museum movements and pageantry,
Centennial/Bicentennial crazes, or Colonial Revival literature.
We welcome submissions for 20-minute papers from graduate students in all
related disciplines. Please send a one-page, single-spaced abstract and a
one-page c.v., including telephone number and internet address, postmarked
by Dec. 1, 1999 to:
