CFP: THE APHRA BEHN SOCIETY FOR WOMEN IN THE ARTS, 1660-1830

DENVER, NOVEMBER 2-5, 2000

Conference topic: Women and Change: Utopias, New Worlds, New Ages.

In November 2000 the Aphra Behn Society Annual Conference will be held in
Denver, Colorado, at the Sheraton 4 Points Hotel on Colorado Boulevard. We
warmly invite papers and panels (our usual format is 3 to 4 papers per
panel and a moderator) on all and any aspects of women in the
arts--literature, painting, music, and philosophy--during the "long"
Eighteenth Century. We are also interested in papers that place women in
wider social and historic contexts.

Our conference topic reflects the fact that we will all be meeting in a
new century and a new millennium. We particularly welcome papers that
discuss ways in which women have thought about endings and beginnings;
their ideas, fears and hopes about ways that time ushers in change; their
utopic (or dystopic) visions; their advances and declines in the worlds of
the arts. We invite papers on Continental as well as British women in the
arts--including the art of politics.

Jessica Munns, Conference President, 2000.
