ISSUES
Do different technologies for encoding and processing information imply
different modes of thought? If so, how?
Do the new information technologies represent a radical departure from the
technology of the book? If so, of what sort?
Do new information technologies imply a need for different pedagogies
within the different disciplines represented in the humanities, the social
sciences, the fine arts, and the sciences and mathematics? If so, why? What
are the appropriate models?
Do different technologies have greater effectiveness in achieving the most
common pedagogical goals of our courses? If so, why? What are some
practical guidelines we should consider in adopting new technology?
Do the new information technologies imply radical changes in the
liberal-arts curriculum? If so, what changes?
We seek papers on any aspect of the above questions. We also invite
interested persons to propose and organize panel discussions. Individual
papers must not exceed 20 minutes. Panel discussions must not exceed 90
minutes, including at least 20 minutes for free discussion.
